The Department of Transport says that the legal blood alcohol limit might reduce to 0.02%, after Automobile Association (AA) put forth a proposal.
Last month the AA sent through a proposal to the department asking for South Africa’s current blood alcohol limit is brought down from 0.05% to 0.02%.
Spokesman for the Department of Transport Collen Msibi says “by saying to government in term of the legislation at the moment, the limit is 0.02% for professional drivers and 0.05% for private drivers. So we saying will of course await AA to approach the Minister and the department, as I’m not so sure if they have done so via a letter.”
As soon as the AA discusses details with the Minister and the Department of Transport in order for a decision to be made.
