Burglar caught in Woodstock

Yesterday afternoon Woodstock police arrested a suspect in Robins road Observatory for house breaking.

During routine patrols Police noticed two men jumping over a fence with big bags. The suspects noticed that police are approaching and immediately started to run.

After a chase, police managed to arrest one of the suspects. Preliminary investigation revealed an entry into the house was gained through the front burglar bar which was forced open.

Woodstock Police spokesperson Sergeant Hilton Malila says, “at time of arrest members found a blue sports bag containing suspected stolen property to the estimated value of R21 000 -00.”

The bag contained custom maid jewellery to the value of R21000-00 , D.V.D. player as well as clothing,which was stolen from the house.

“The Woodstock Police will oppose bail against the suspect in order to investigate possible links to other similar break-ins with in that specific area”, says Malila.

Police are still pursuing leads in tracking down the second suspect who is still at large.

The 20 yr old man will appear in the Cape Town magistrate court on Monday and will face charges of house breaking and theft.
