Murders in South Africa have declined

Today in Pretoria Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa released government’s crime statistics for 2009/2010.

The statistics show the country's murder rate largest decline since 1995.

The murder rate fell by eight-point-six-percent to below 17-thousand between April last year and March this year.

Mthethwa said “murder statistics were significant as it was an area where one could not easily cheat. A total of 11-thousand-834 arrests have been made in connection with the murders”.

110 police members lost their lives in the fight against crime.

The minister also announced that attempted murder had dropped by 6.1 percent.
