Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor today presented the National Survey of Research and Experimental Development in Parliament.

The survey showed that government spending on science development increased from R4 billion ten years ago, to R21 billion 2008/2009.

The research was a development to enhance food security.

Minister Naledi Pandor said in Parliament today “A major constraint which we shouldn’t neglect is the skills one. If you don’t have researchers, you can’t do research. Look at our universities at the moment the academic component around 34 percent have post graduate degrees. We have to increase that substantially”.
