A nine year old has been killed in an accident on the N7 highway between the Plattekloof and Potsdam road off ramp.
ER24 spokesperson Andre Visser says the young girl was walking from school unaccompanied, decided to cross the busy highway from the Bothasig side to where her house is, in the informal settlement of Dunoon.
“Unfortunately whilst crossing the outgoing lanes with traffic heading in the direction of Malmesbury, the girl was allegedly struck by a bakkie at high speed.
“When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene local law enforcement authorities were already attending to the girl. Unfortunately the nine year old girls injuries were to severe and she was declared dead at the scene,” said Visser.
Traffic heading in the direction of Malmesbury is still being diverted due to that part of the highway being closed. The appropriate authorities will be investigating the incident further.
