03 May 2007

Cape Town area residents are encouraged to offer their input about the city’s Draft Budget and Integrated Development Plan (IDP) at one of the last five public hearings today and tomorrow.

The R20,3 billion budget includes a proposed 15% rise in rates and service charges so that the city can imporve services and upgrade transport, sewer, and electricity infrastructure. The IDP commits the city to meet specific goals in the next five years and helps prioritize spending.

Residents and organisations are invited to attend the hearings and are asked to provide comments on both documents by 10 May.

The Draft Budget and IDP are available for viewing at the Cape Town Civic Centre, at all subcouncil offices, at all city libraries, and are online at http://www.capetown.gov.za/.

The five public hearings are as follows:

  • Subcouncil 8 on 3 May at 18:30 at Macassar New Community Hall, 021 850-4149
