The Western Cape Social Development Department is assisting at least 100 people evicted from a women's shelter in Eerste River.

The Geneva Crisis Centre, which was set up as a haven to house survivors of abuse, is being shut down after it was discovered that it’s being illegally used for low-cost accommodation by the founder of an NGO.

Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz says police told department officials the building was being used by criminals to sell drugs.

Fritz’s spokesperson Sihle Ngobese says, “Their primary concern is to provide temporary shelter for those who were evicted.

Their particular focus is on the children, the mothers and older persons. They are also have officials on standby.”
