African National Congress Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe has urged party members not to rest on their laurels and to work hard ahead of the 3rd August local government elections.

Mantashe was campaigning in Cape Town over the weekend, vying for votes. On the campaign trail in suburbs around Cape Town yesterday, Mantashe highlighted the disparities between the city’s Cape Flats communities and the city’s more affluent suburbs.

He believes speeding up service delivery to the poor will best address this divide.

Provincial party secretary Faiez Jacobs echoed these sentiments. Mantashe also reiterated that unity within the provincial structures is integral to the ANC’s success in the up-coming municipal elections.
