The students' financial aid scheme, NSFAS is urging learners to choose careers that are relevant to the country's economy.

Executive officer, Msulwa Daca has been addressing learners, teachers and education officers during the launch of NSFAS week in Philippi on the Cape Flats.

The aim of the week is to share information on the scheme.

Daca says NSFAS pays out an average of R15 billion per year to about 420 000 students.

He says the fund is owed about the same amount by defaulting previous beneficiaries but that has not derailed their funding programmes.
