The case against an alleged girlfriend murderer from Mitchells Plain has been postponed.
Denver Pitts, 38, was fatally stabbed in December
2024, at his Tafelsig home allegedly by his girlfriend. A 24-year-old female
was arrested in connection with the murder and appeared in the Mitchell's Plain
Magistrates' court for the second time on Thursday morning.
According to his sister, Michelle Essack, he was stabbed in
his heart. Essack says her brother refused to open a case after being abused by
the partner on several occasions.
Inside court on Thursday, there were jubilation from
supporters of the deceased as the court ordered the accused to remain in
custody until her next court appearance on 11 February 2025. The matter was
postponed as the Magistrate had an emergency and proceedings was thus put on
hold. The suspect walking away with a smirk on her face.

Community activist, Natasha Gertse, expressed her dismay on
the postponement.
‘’I am very disappointed that the matter was postponed. So many
of us took off from work today, now we are left stranded until 11 February. We
will have to protest again and take off from work, it is so unfair. We have
handed over a petition top the prosecutor before court started and hope that
the bail will be denied and I know it will be denied as we received many
signatures.’’
