The Cape Town regional court has postponed the case of a former Maitland senior policeman and two co-accused after charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
The case has been postponed to next month. Trevor Chetty was the former head of detectives at Maitland police station. He and two detectives Ronnie Mathews and Jan Johannes Stevens appeared in court.
The State argues that three suspects were to be paid R5 500 for withdrawing a vehicle case theft, according to the Cape Argus.
Police arrested the men during the police’s organised crime unit on June 11.
Chetty left his job just before his disciplinary hearing at the end of last year.
Matthews and Stevens both left their work after being found guilty of misconduct. The three men have been released on bail. Chetty however faces charges of corruption in yet another trial.
