Three classrooms of a Cape Flats school have burnt down after robbers broke into the school and stole electrical equipment.
According to a statement, the fire took place in the early hours of Monday morning, at the Central Park Primary School in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town.
Firefighters took care of the fire, but books were lost and destroyed. The school is expecting to receive furniture and learning material as well as the restoration of the electricity.
Gert Witbooi spokesperson for Education MEC Cameron Dugmore says, the electricity had been cut, but that the supply of water to the school had not been damaged.
The robbers are believed to have gained entry to the school through the rooftop. They stole the bulk of the school’s electronic cabling.
He confirms that this may be the cause of the fire; fortunately no learners were in the classrooms when this happened.
The affected pupils were put in other classes so that learning would not be disturbed.
