The Treatment Action Campaign has condemned the eviction order of the displaced foreigners by the City of Cape Town calling it unlawful.
The City of Cape Town told announced that it is going to close the remaining camps on the 3rd of September.
The TAC has been supporting displaced foreigners for the last two months has announced it is going to run out of funds by 11 August Monday.
TAC Communications Officer Scott Dunlop said that they have been supporting the displaced foreigners for the last six months.
“At the moment there is no plan for the remaining five thousand foreigners in the camps”, added Dunlop
“We would really like to know what is the city’s plan before the camps are closed and this province is talking about reintegration which on one hand has benefits but there are many people in the camps and safety sites who don’t have resources to go back to the communities”
“Many are too scared to go back to the communities and others are waiting for the United Nations to be involved in the repatriation and resettlement as well”
Dunlop also added that they are waiting for better conditions,
“At the moment there is inadequate shelter, food supply and also human rights have been violated”
