Constitutional Court dismisses Mbeki’s appeal

Thabo Mbeki has suffered a setback with the Constitutional Court dismissing his urgent application to oppose a high court ruling that there may have been political interference present in the prosecution of Jacob Zuma.

Eight Constitutional Court judges yesterday found that it was not in the interests of justice to hear Mbeki's application at this stage.

Their decision is based on the fact that the National Prosecuting Authority is also appealing the same judgement in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The NPA appeal will be heard on November 28.

Constitutional Law expert from the University of Western Cape Pierre De Vos says he is not surprise by the Constitutional Court’s decision.
