Four children and their grandmother have been found hacked to death in their home in Tyeni in the Eastern Cape this morning.
Police say the attacked happened during the night and is believed to have been perpetrated by a male relative.
The bodies of the four children aged 4, 11, 12 and 16, along with their 79 year old grandmother were discovered by a family member.
It is believed that the three younger children were killed in their sleep while the 16 year old tried to escape.
Police say a mute relative found in the home with the victims.
Authorities are reportedly trying to use sign language to try and establish what happened.
