State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele has defended the decision to appointment Mo Shaik as Secret Service head saying he has vast experience in intelligence matters.

Opposition parties have slammed the move.

The DA said the appointment has clearly been made to consolidate the Jacob Zuma faction’s hold over the South African intelligence community.

Cope said Shaik has proven himself to be an unprofessional person who has breached state security by releasing classified information to the public during the Hefer Commission.

The Freedom Front Plus echoed the statement saying Shaik’s appointment further proves that loyal political supporters are still being appointed to top positions by the ANC.
