Western Cape Premier Helen Zille is expected to visit various venues in Mitchells Plain today.

Premier Zille, who’s also DA national leader, will start her visit at the Mitchells Plain Day Hospital to speak to patients and staff about their experiences and expectations of the hospital.

In a media statement Charlene du Toit Acting Head of Communications in the premier’s office, says the visit forms part of the ongoing quest to improve health services to the people of the Western Cape.

“The Department of Health last week announced the construction of a new provincial hospital. The project is expected to cost the department R540 million and will serve as a new health facility for the Cape Flats,” du Toit said.

Mitchells Plain is one of the many areas in the Western Cape with the high use of drug dealing and drug abuse.

Du Toit says and for this reason the Western Cape Government has identified the fight against this “evil” as one of its main priorities.

The premier is also expected to pay an appropriate visit to a particular venue in Mitchells Plain as part of the broader strategy against drug abuse.
