Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been granted six
years in jail. Presiding judge over Pistorius case Judge Masipa handed down the
sentence this morning at the Pretoria high court.
The former athlete served one year in jail after the High Court in Pretoria found him guilty of culpable homicide, but the appeal court overturned that finding last year and convicted him of murder.
Meanwhile, it was expected that Pistorius
will be granted between 15-years in jail as minimum.
His sentencing has already gone viral on social media, with people expressing disappointment about the sentencing, while others think it better than nothing.
Pistorius shot Steenkamp to death in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013, claiming he mistook her for a burglar when he fired four times through the door of his bedroom toilet.
However, During the sentencing
hearing, prosecutor Gerrie Nel argued that the double-amputee sprinter should
be given a lengthy jail term as he failed to show any remorse for the murder.
