Founder of Pick 'n Pay, Raymond Ackerman, dies

The founder of retail giant Pick n Pay, Raymond Ackerman, has died.

His death was confirmed by the retailer on social media on Thursday morning. It is understood he passed away on Wednesday evening in Cape Town. He was 92.

In a short statement, Pick ‘n Pay, described Ackerman as ‘’a visionary entrepreneur, humanitarian and a great South African.’’ The retailer said South Africa has lost a brilliant patriot who always saw a positive future for the country

Ackerman had brought four Pick n Pay stores in Cape Town in 1967 with his wife, Wendy, and from there became a visionary entrepreneur in the country.

Ackerman leaves behind his wife Wendy, four children, twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
