Keep a close eye on schools, appeals WCED, as Term 3 ends

''An involved community means schools will not be broken into this school holiday.'' So says Western Cape Education MEC, David Maynier, who appealed to residents to keep a close eye on their local schools as learners and educators go on a short break. Schools close on Friday as Term 3 comes to an end.

Maynier said the department has subsidised security at 454 schools. This is 18 fewer schools than the June/July holidays.

The MEC said many will enjoy the few days, while others will hold activities for learners as part of its #BackOnTrack programme.

" Our matrics will be hard at work during their Spring School classes, as they count down the days to the start of their final exams. Grade 7, 8, and 10 learners will also be attending #BackOnTrack holiday classes, and our Safe Schools programme will be running at selected schools across the province," said David Maynier, Western Cape Education MEC.

Maynier urged residents to report any suspicious activity in and around schools to the South African Police Service (SAPS) on 08600 10 111 or to the Safe Schools hotline on 0800 45 46 47 toll free.

"We wish all of our teachers, learners, and parents a safe and peaceful holiday!," said Maynier.
