13 people killed in a bus-truck collision near De Doorns

Thirteen people were killed in a crash on the N1 Hexriver Pass between Touwsrivier and De Doorns, on Saturday evening.

A bus and a truck was involved in the collision. It is believed that the bus driver had lost control of his vehicle, after which it crashed into the mountain. Western Cape authorities are however probing the cause of the accident.

The bus was transporting people from Zimbabwe to Robertson. Several others were injured.

‘’We convey our sincerest condolences to the families that have lost loved ones in this tragic accident and send our prayers and support to the injured. A word of appreciation is extended to all authorities and incident-response personnel responding to the scene.  We implore all motorists to exercise caution and patience whilst commuting and adhere to the prescribed road safety regulations and tips,’’ said the Breede Valley municipality, in a statement.

This tragic incident comes a day after eleven people were killed on the province’s roads, in two separate road crashes.
