Hawks welcome the conviction of two fraudsters

The Hawks have welcomed the conviction of two suspects for fraud and money laundering in Oudtshoorn.

Ricardo Bowckers and Desiree Bowckers both aged 47 were arrested after it was discovered that they applied for several insurance policies in 2014.

They put in fraudulent claims and received an estimated R50 000.00.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, Ricardo was found guilty on 13 counts of fraud and 9 counts of money laundering whereas Desire was found guilty on 5 counts of fraud and 12 counts of money laundering.

“During July 2014, both accused were once arrested and charged with one count of fraud and released on bail.

On 15 March 2024, they were subsequently convicted after their bail was revoked and remanded in custody until their sentencing on 10 April 2024”, he added.

The duo will remain in custody until their sentencing on 10 April.
