More men and women purchase firearms in SA

As South Africa is alleged as having one of the highest crime rate in the world, more men and women are purchasing firearms to defend themselves against ruthless criminals.

But the SAPS have denied claims that more attention is given to female applicants as they want to protect themselves from domestic violence, rape and murder.

SAPS director Phuti Setati said that applications are not based on a certain gender.

“From the SAPS side we can confirm that we do receive applications from both genders, however we are not taking those applicants based on gender”

“We treat both applications like they are ordinary applicants"
