The Western Cape Anti-Eviction Campaign agreed that thay will meet the new MEC for Housing, Whitey Jacobs today.
The meeting was about the housing crisis in Cape Town including the situation of backyard dwellers from Guguletu, Nyanga and Langa who have been on the waiting list for housing for up to 30 years; and the situation of the evicted community in Delft who have been living alongside a busy road, Symphony Way, for months.
According to Western Cape Anti- Eviction Campaign Spokesperson Mandisi Twalo, the meeting lasted an hour, it was merely a briefing on the challenges facing the backlogs of housing.
“He (Whitey Jacobs) is new in the office and is prepared to work hand in hand with the role players, so that when we start talking about challenges, we can work closely together.”
