The Department of Foreign Affairs has noted media reports on the death of South African pilot following the plane crash on a UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday.
Officials in Kinshasa are working to bring the pilot’s body home. The United Nations has confirmed all 17 people on board the South African- owned plane, are now considered dead.
Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ronnie Mamoepa, said South Africa’s diplomatic mission in Kinshasa is in liaison with officials in the DRC to try and identify the victims.
“The South African government extends its heartfelt condolences to all those families who lost their loved ones during this tragedy and in particular the family of the deceased pilot.”
