A record crack down on illegal taxi operations

To guarantee the safety of commuters, Cape Town Traffic Services has cracked down on illegal taxi operators in Kuils River.

Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson Merle Lourens reported that In the latest road safety operation in Silversands and Wesbank, traffic officers caught 21 illegal taxi operators, 37 unlicensed drivers, served 21 warrants of arrest and fined 12 taxis for passenger overloading and 42 for not having permits.

"This is in addition to Operation Reclaim, whereby 16 law enforcement initiatives were launched in Goodwood, Kuils River, Athlone, Hout Bay, Milnerton and Cape Town’s CBD"

A total of 995 warrants of arrest were served on 138 people, mainly for traffic contraventions and contempt of court.

During a routine check in Voortrekker Road, Kraaifontein, Traffic Officer Johannes Stoop apprehended five occupants of a motor vehicle found to have been hijacked in Port Elizabeth.
