A Khayelitsha man is to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate court today, for computer theft.
The arrest follows after the principal of Isikhokhelo Primary school in Site C noticed that the computers installed at the school by the Department of Education were suddenly working at a very slow pace.
He immediately investigated and found that an employee at the school had possibly removed certain equipment from the components.
The suspect employed as the secretary at the time did not turn up for work afterwards.
The school then proceeded with criminal steps and opened a theft case.
Police spokesperson Captain Anneker Van Vyver says with the assistance of a family member Detective Constable Ashley Siyaya of the Khayelitsha Detective Services managed to arrest the 25 year old suspect at his house in Khayelitsha.
At the suspect’s house police seized a black rubbish bin in the house containing several computer parts as well as two computer towers .
It is believed that the suspect removed several computer parts at the school, replacing them with older slower parts.
“After interviewing the suspect police managed to conclude the investigation with yet another breakthrough when they traced the stolen equipment as far as Namibia and managed to recover all stolen computer parts,”added Van Vyver.
