Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille has congratulated Justice Sandile Ngcobo on his appointment as Chief Justice.
President Jacob Zuma made the announcement this afternoon.
Ngcobo succeed Chief Justice Pius Langa who’s contract comes to an end this month.
Zille says the DA has in the past expressed a preference for Justice Dikgang Moseneke, but it respects the right of the President to appoint the Chief Justice.
African Christian Democratic Party leader Kenneth Meshoe says he trusts Ngcobo’s appointment will help restore the credibility of the judiciary.
Inkatha Freedom Party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi says he tusts that Ngcobo would rigorously uphold the Constitution as the country's law of the law.
