NSRI Mykonos and NSRI St Helena Bay duty crews were alerted by Shelly Point Security about the capsized vessel. SAPS, Police Sea Borderline Control, SAMSA, West Coast Medical, WC Government Health EMS rescue squad and ambulance, and an NSRI Mykonos rescue vehicle with rescue swimmers quickly mobilised to the scene.

Four local fishermen were aboard the snoek fishing boat when it capsized in the backline breakers. Upon arrival, rescuers found three men on the beach and the overturned boat washed ashore. Paramedics initiated CPR on one man, identified as the skipper, but he was sadly declared deceased after all resuscitation efforts failed.

Two other survivors, local men, were treated for non-fatal drowning symptoms and injuries. One was transported to hospital in stable condition, while the other was taken home by police.

A search operation was launched for the fourth fisherman, who remains missing despite extensive sea and shoreline searches. SAPS WPDS have been activated, and police continue their search efforts.

An inquest docket has been opened by the police to investigate the incident.
