A cash-in-transit security guard and one of six robbers died in a hail of bullets this morning, during an attempted cash-in-transit heist.
The drama unfolded when six men opened fire at a cash van at a Caltex Garage in Duinesfontein Road in Manenberg.
A police officer in the surrounding area came to the assistance of the security guards, only to be hurled at by bullets.
An unknown male sustained gun shot wounds to his chest and died metres from the scene of crime.
Another suspect, believed to be in his late twenties was shot in the leg and was taken to a nearby hospital.
A security guard in his late thirties died at Vincent Palloti hospital after he was shot in the stomach.
Police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa says that they confiscated three firearms and ammunition.
She added that no cash boxes were taken during the armed robbery.
Four suspects ran away on foot and are still at large. Police have launched a massive search for them.
