During a disciplinary hearing held on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent Siphiwo Hewana was found guilty on six charges of serious misconduct relating to the arrest of Tony Yengeni during November 2007.
According to the police’s André Traut, during a conclusion of the hearing on Wednesday, Hewana was sanctioned with a dismissal from the South African Police Service with immediate effect.
“Criminal charges of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and incitement to commit perjury are still being investigated against the member,” says Traut.
Hewana is due to appear in the Parow Regional Court on the above mentioned charges. A preliminary court date is set for 23 April 2008.
