Work has started on the new pipeline which will channel treated effluent water from the of Cape Town’s Athlone Wastewater Treatment Works to surrounding areas.
Councillor Clive Justus said the City anticipates spending R34 million rand on the laying of pipes to ensure that treated effluent is supplied by agriculture industry and leisure industry.
“The nearly laid pipes will be from the Athlone Wastewater Treatment plant into the Pinelands area, into the Bonteheuwel area, into Epping Industria and in Thornton.”
Justus said the pipes will deliver some 21million litres of water per month for the irrigation of sports fields and other activities.
