According to news 24 reports, the ruling government has finally come to terms with fact that our country is in fact crime ridden. Addressing parliament earlier in the week, Deputy Minister of justice, Johnny de Lange, admitted that more has to be done to fight crime.
He puts some of the blame on the shortage of resources and unprofessional personnel working in government sectors. The Minister advised that the public services namely courts and prisons be revamped after lengthy study of statistics and visits to courts and showed great shortages.

Meanwhile, with one of the highest crime rates in the country, it has been reported that no less than 230 people have been arrested in Johannesburg. During a crime prevention initiative over the weekend, the perpetrators were arrested. Arrests were made for serious offences including house breakings and violence towards women and children. Police also confiscated a number of unlicensed fire arms and illegal items.
