The Western Cape Health Minister Marius Fransman will today be part of the Launch of Pink and Blue Child Awareness Campaign.

In the Western Cape Trauma amongst children is alarmingly on the rise. Hundreds of children are traumatized daily due to physical, psychological, sexual and emotional abuse, unwanted pregnancies, neglect, illness and hospitalisation, chronic and terminal illness, substance abuse, suicide attempts, domestic and gang violence.

The Pink and Blue Child Awareness Campaign is meant to educate and sensitize families, the business sector and the society at large on the rights, needs and responsibilities of children as well as parents and all role players in child caring.

The health MEC Spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says “the reason for the campaign is to highlight the stress and trauma that is faced by hundreds of children everyday in the Western Cape”.

Ntabazalila says the Health Minister will host 2000 children at Ratanga Junction tomorrow 12 August 2009. He will address the children and parents on the issue of violence and trauma.
