Today was the opening of the ninth annual Media Kidocracy Konference (MKK). Every year children are invited to participate in workshops where they learn about democracy and explore different aspects of the media.
Representatives from Bush Radio’s Children’s Radio Education Workshop (CREW), Canada World Youth, Molo Songololo, the Children’s Resource Centre, Khoi-San International as well as Making a Difference, attended the conference held at St. Agnes Primary School in Woodstock. During the first hour of the conference, some of the children entertained the crowed and showcased their talents by singing, dancing and rapping.
This year the six topics that will be discussed during the workshops include: freedom of expression, global warming, gender, HIV/AIDS, cultural identity and sexual exploitation in children. These points are rarely talked about amongst children and so MKK provides a platform for children to discuss these important matters that affect them.
