Taxi violence has erupted in several parts of Cape Town. Buses and cars have been stoned on the N2, in Du Noon in Milnerton, Delft and Khayelitsha. Commuters were left stranded as many buses were forced not to operate.
Reports say shots were fired as protestors clashed with police. Taxi groups are opposed to the Bus Rapid Transport system, proposed in the run-up to the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Taxis are now making their way into the city on the N2 highway, disrupting traffic. The police are currently having the situation under control,
Siphiwe Ncate from the Cape Taxi amalgamated Association says government must sit down and talk to them and not implement things.
