According to Lesley de Reuck, Cape Town’s 2010 World Cup Director, the festivities proved the municipality’s mettle to stage big events in the run-up to 2010. “We were expecting around 50 000 spectators and are grateful that no incidents of crime or injury were reported. It proved that our safety and security plans were spot on.”
“It’s obviously came as a big surprise for us, we were quite amazed at the number of people that attended, I mean a 100 000 is a large amount of people to attend the festive lights. It just goes to show that Capetonians are always ready to party in that environment,” said de Reuck
de Reuck also said that it helps build up a lot of energy for the Fan Parks that are being held and it was so great seeing everyone there with their friends and family.
