The Democratic Alliance calls on Judge Nkola Motata to resign from the bench with immediate effect.

This is after Motata convicted of drunken driving in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court and fined R20 000 yesterday.

He drove his car into a wall in Johnessburg more than two year ago.

DA says the judge found guilty of an offence cannot sit in judgment of others who are accused of breaking the law.

“The nature of the offence and t he allegations made by witnesses are particularly important. We expect judges to behave perfectly in their personal as well as their professional lives,” said DA’s Natasha Michael.

The Democratic Alliance says should Judge Motata not resign, the matter will in all probability serve before the Judicial Service Commission.
