Police are investigating why they were called in for a housebreaking reported in Van Breda Street, Constantia.

During their investigation police could not find any traces of a burglary, forced entry or theft in the house.

The incident left police Constable Percy Musiu fatally wounded, with a bullet wound in his chest.

Police spokesperson, Inspector November Filander says they are waiting to take the statement from the home owner who is currently in a critical condition in hospital, after he was shot during the incident for furthering their investigation.
