The strike at the South African Revenue Service (SARS) is set to continue, as members of NEHAWU unanimously rejected the proposed wage offer put forward by their employer, at the National Bargaining Forum on Sunday.

SARS is offering its employees an increase of between 9% and 11%, while the union is demanding a 12,8% increase.

In a media release, NEHAWU says: “In the meantime the union is calling on all its members to withdraw their labour until we have received a satisfactory offer from the employer”.

According to the release, the union has also noted SARS declaration that the strike will be no longer be protected if it continues. However, according to NEHAWU’s recognition agreement and strike notice served to SARS, they are allowed to take indefinite and protected strike action.
