NEHAWU rejects SARS wage offer

The strike at the South African Revenue Services continues after members of NEHAWU collectively rejected the revised wage offer that was presented by the employer at the National Bargaining Forum on Sunday.

SARS presented a revised wage offer of 9-11% on a sliding scale and also proposed that a task team be set up to look at the career model and Danger allowance and report to the NBF on the last week of October 2009.

NEHAWU spokesperson Sizwe Pamla says the union members are standing firm on the demand for a 12,8% wage increase across the board and are demanding the implementation of the danger allowance, career model because they are already covered by an existing agreement that was signed in 2007.

“The union has therefore written a letter to the management of SARS informing them of the decision and also urging them to present a new revised wage offer that satisfies the demands of the employees,” added Pamla.

The union is calling on all its members to withdraw their labour until such time we have received a satisfactory offer from the employer.
