Education MEC Cameron Dugmore has welcomed the R9bn allocation for education after Finance and Tourism MEC Lynne Brown announced in her Provincial Budget Speech that the education department’s budget has increased by R1.3bn.
The MEC said in a statement that although he accepts the allocation they also accept the challenge that his department utilize the funds to ensure quality outcomes throughout the system.
“Obviously the department will prioritise it (funds) in terms of its strategies, literacy, numeracy, safety, early childhood development and the provisioning of schools to our communities,” says spokesperson for the MEC Gert Witbooi.
Witbooi elaborated that the MEC urges the communities, parents, teachers, learner and officials of the department to rise to the challenge that for 2008 they increase the quality of outcomes.
