Blackheath is experiencing a business boom with the development of a R400 million shopping centre in the area, and the City of Cape Town is teaming up with businesses to sustain economic growth.Strategically situated between Brackenfell, Kuils River and Stellenbosch; Blackheath Industria is a primary job creation area for Mfuleni, Blue Downs and Happy Valley.

“As a key industrial hub, it already hosts manufacturing giants such as Allens Meshco, Cape Concrete, Continental China and Columbia DBL,” says Councillor Pieter van Dalen.

He adds that commercial and industrial growth in the northern suburbs is expanding at a rapid pace with new developments occurring all along this belt in the direction of Somerset West.

“This not only creates jobs for informal settlements such as Happy Valley- where the unemployment rate is close to 40%- but helps to expand markets, especially in the housing and construction sectors,” explains van Dalen.

The new shopping centre will be situated on the corner of Stellenbosch Arterial/ Polkadraai Road and Van Riebeeck Road.
