Greenmarket Square, one of Cape Town’s best known landmarks, celebrates its 300th anniversary in March next year, and will undergo a major revamp.
The City of Cape Town says among the improvements are a newly constructed market, the installation of additional CCTV cameras and pedestrian lights, paving the sidewalks and the addition of a stage for entertainment.
From next week Monday, a section of Longmarket Street ,between Long and Burg Street, will be temporarily closed to traffic. One way traffic will be accommodated from Burg Street down to Adderley Street.

The re-paving of Greenmarket Square is such a waste of money! Itlooks the same as it did before.....actually not as nice because now they used cement instead of the black grout they did before. You thought the counsel would have knowledgeable people in decisions like this. I spoke to a few traders on the Square and they also admitted it! R 5 000 000 that could have been spent much better!
