Eskom's board has rewarded the efforts of CEO Jacob Maroga, to keep South Africa's lights on with a 26.7% salary increase.
This is considerably more than the 10.5% given to the company’s workforce.
According to reports, Maroga told an online publication he “didn't ask for the increase” and added that he “preferred not to talk about his salary”.
He said the board decided on his increase after assessing his performance.
Meanwhile, parts of the city’s southern suburbs were left without electricity early this morning after a circuit breaker faulted at a substation near the Kenilworth Centre.
Electricity Services technicians immediately started with repair work and by noon the electricity supply had been restored to 50% of the affected areas.
