The deadline for the firearm amnesty period expires today.
National police spokesperson Phuti Setati says communities from Gauteng, the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal have been particularly compliant in voluntarily handing over unlicensed and unwanted firearms.
Setati warns that gun owners who fail to meet the firearm amnesty deadline will face prosecution.
Police will launch more targeted operations throughout the country to confiscate unlicensed firearms after today’s deadline.
