The African National Congress Youth League has denied reports of altercations and chairs being thrown at its provincial congress in Limpopo.
But journalists insist that Youth League leader Julius Malema had to be restrained after being booed by a group supporting a rival candidate for the provincial leadership.
Malema’s chosen candidate, Frans Moswane, was eventually elected the new Limpopo Youth League chairperson. Reports say police were called in to settle the altercations.
They reportedly fired rubber bullets and used a water cannon to control delegates.
