A 24-year-old man plunged to his death while base jumping from the Banhoek Mountain in Stellenbosch today.
A police spokesperson says the victim and two friends went up the mountains to take part in the extreme sport.
The man who died jumped first and his friends heard him scream before he hit the ground.
His body was found shortly afterwards. Base jumping is an extreme sport in which a parachute is used to jump from fixed objects.
