A case of housebreaking and attempted theft has been opened by the George police.
Police spokesperson Captain Bernadine Steyn says an employee at a food store in Knysna Road, George noted that one of the cash safes was damaged by an explosives charge.
“Although the safe was damaged the door could not be opened and therefore no cash was taken. The other safe was found with an explosives charge still in the keyhole of the door. The charge did not explode. Both cash safes were in one office.
“We have opened a case of housebreaking and Attempted theft. A charge under the Explosive Act, Act 26 of 1956 causing an illegal explosion) is also being investigated.
