The department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has cautioned everyone not to collect and consume any fish which washed up at the Zandvlei estuary.
The departments Lionel Adendorf said the department is extremely concerned about this issue.
He added that collecting the fish is both hazardous and illegal.
Adendorf said the public should stay reminded that it is illegal to collect any of the species which wash out in the estuary without a permit.
Anyone found in possession of any of the fish washed out in the estuary without a permit will be fined up to R500 per fish.
